Nowruz promises a future in which freedom and justice can be transformed from a dream into a reality. A future in which the men and women of this land live in security, freedom, equality, and prosperity. In these days of war, destruction, mourning, and grief, let us not forget that a better tomorrow is possible.

We believe that a democratic future in Iran, based on freedom and the rule of law, can only be realized through the will and civil struggle of the Iranian people and their pro-democracy forces. Experiences of military interventions in recent decades have also shown that such actions often bring costly and destabilizing consequences for nations and the region.

By electing Mojtaba Khamenei as the leader of the Islamic Republic, the regime’s repressive apparatus showed that it continues to have the first say in all matters and plays the main role in shaping the leadership of the Islamic Republic, and it brought to this position a person who has not yet made any apparent achievements, has not even given a public speech, and does not enjoy a position among the official regime’s clergy, and his only characteristic is a special relationship with the commanders of the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its plundering and corrupt officials in the circle of his father’s office.

We hope that the responsible international-law-based approach of the Government of Spain will inspire other governments and international institutions to prioritize diplomacy, the rule of law, and peace, thereby helping to prevent the expansion of war and further suffering in the region.

We warn that the continuation of this war could spread regionally and involve more countries, a situation in which it will become much more difficult to contain and control. Therefore, we believe that the sooner this war ends, the better for all parties currently involved in the conflict.

THE WAR ON IRAN
The war on Iran has started. Israel and the US claim that this is a pre-emptive war. None of the known facts attest to such claims. This war attempts to impose US/ Israeli hegemony over the whole of the Middle East. In this critical moment, we call upon the European Union to adopt an independent and principled position: to oppose actions that contravene international law and the principles of the UN Charter, to promote active diplomatic solutions, and to press for an immediate ceasefire. Protecting the lives and rights of the Iranian people and preventing further regional destabilization must be central to Europe’s response.

In light of these considerations, the Left Party of Iran respectfully urges the Government of Canada to condemn this military action and to employ all appropriate diplomatic means to seek its immediate cessation.

It is also deeply concerning that the countries carrying out these attacks possess nuclear weapons themselves and have opposed practical measures aimed at establishing a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East, an objective supported by the majority of countries in the region and discussed within the framework of the United Nations.
