The United Force of the People Can End the Reign of Tyranny!
On the Anniversary of the Revolutionary "Women, Life, Freedom" Movement

September 8, 2025

The revolutionary movement "Women, Life, Freedom" emerged in the context of decades of religious tyranny, structural discrimination, deprivation of fundamental rights, and lack of individual, social, and political freedoms, injustice, and economic pressure in Iran. The death of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini, a teenager from Saqqez, in September 2022, as a symbol of institutionalized violence against women, became a turning point that fueled the latent anger of society and created a nationwide movement. This movement was a rebellious response to years of injustice, and with the pioneering presence of women, the solidarity and participation of youth, and the support of all families, it turned the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom" into the banner of liberating society from the shackles of oppression and tyranny. And in practice, it marked the nationwide solidarity of the people of our country, regardless of national, ethnic, religious, political and social differences.

This movement was a bright page in the history of the Iranian people's struggles against the tyranny and misogynistic policies of the Islamic Republic, which was able to impose a major defeat on the regime despite the bloody repression and naked violence of the regime. Now the Islamic Republic is no longer able to fully implement misogynistic policies and impose compulsory hijab on women. This retreat was the first public and obvious defeat of the regime against the will of the people and showed that freedom-loving women and men, if they act unitedly, can break down the rotten walls of the ruling tyranny.

More than a temporary protest, the Zhina (Mahsa) Amini movement created a cultural and political rupture and confronted society with the fact that women's freedom is a condition for the liberation of society. Its slogan became a symbol of the new values of equality and democracy and laid a new foundation for the formation of future demands.

This movement also left a wide echo at the international level. The freedom-seeking voice of Iranian women and youth went beyond the country's borders and inspired the solidarity of freedom-seeking and feminist movements around the world. This global solidarity further isolated the oppressive regime ruling our country.

These movements will bear fruit when they merge with the protests of workers, teachers, retirees, youth, and other oppressed and exploited groups, paving the way for the formation of a broad popular front against religious tyranny and the establishment of democracy.

The Left Party of Iran believes that the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement has left behind important achievements such as breaking the hegemony of the ruling misogynistic ideology, weakening the religious and political authority of the system, raising public awareness of the link between women's freedom and the liberation of society, and establishing democratic values in Iran's political culture. On the anniversary of this great movement, we call on political parties, organizations, and democratic institutions inside and outside the country to continue and expand their struggle in any way they can to continue the democratic and progressive demands of the revolutionary “Women, Life, Freedom” movement, and the pursuit and expansion of the people's demands. We have no doubt that by organizing and strengthening solidarity and linking scattered protests, we can pave the way for ending the Islamic Republic and establishing a democratic and just society.
