Central Council of the Left Party of Iran
Dear compatriots, the long and frequent water and electricity cuts, along with high prices, falling purchasing power and unbearable heat, have added to the problems and made life in the hell that the regime has imposed on you even more unbearable than before and have led to the spread of dissatisfaction and protests by most people.
The current policies of the Islamic Republic are partly responsible for the electricity crisis and water shortage. Although Iran is not the only country in the Middle East facing this problem, many of the current problems are the result of the regime's wrong and destructive policies and management. If regimes have the necessary foresight and will, they can prevent the electricity crisis by building gas and solar power plants and avoid dragging the country into water shortage by properly managing and optimizing agricultural and industrial water consumption and avoiding the construction of immethodical dams with the help of experts. But in our country, there is a regime in power that the only thing it does not think about is planning for the future of the country and dealing with the crises that are plaguing it.
The Islamic Republic has shown in practice that it is unable to resolve the crises it has created and to govern the country in accordance with the current needs of society, and it is making life more difficult and unbearable for you year after year. Living below the poverty line, high prices, shortages of goods, hunger, lack of water and electricity, unemployment, lack of welfare and freedom, intensified repression and discrimination, and the increasing destruction of the environment are the only gifts that the 46 years of the Islamic Republic's rule have brought to our country.
You, the people of Iran, when Israel and the United States invaded the country, despite your strong dissatisfaction with the regime, refused the invitation of the hegemonic aggressors to join them. The leaders of the Islamic Republic wanted to portray this refusal as support for their corrupt regime. The main burden of the war and its losses fell on you, the Iranian people, who had no benefit in this war. Domestic and foreign warmongers killed more than 900 of you and practically stopped the people's demand movements.
Now is the time to resume and expand civil protests. In addition to the demands so far, we should also fight against war and warmongering. After the ceasefire, a number of workers have gone on strike several times, and pensioners in the cities of Rasht and Kermanshah have returned to the streets to pursue their demands. Protests against water and electricity cuts are widespread and are becoming more widespread. Protests against the high cost and shortage of food products, unemployment, shortage of basic goods, and closure of factories and workshops are everywhere and are going to become a widespread movement.
Dissatisfaction and protests against water and electricity cuts, without which people's work and life would be paralyzed, are currently more widespread than other demands of society. Basically, it is not possible to solve many problems without resolving the water and electricity crisis, at least to the current extent, and cutting off the mafia that controls the country's water and energy resources.
The economic situation, livelihoods, unemployment, inflation, external pressure, and dissatisfaction with the regime have never been as critical as they are today in the past 46 years. Factories and economic institutions that are the source of production, employment, and profits are half-paralyzed and operate at less than minimum capacity due to the lack of electricity, water, and gas. Workers are sent on unpaid leave or fired. Wages have been reduced and are not paid on time. Workers' and retirees' insurance premiums are not paid regularly, and their salaries and pensions are also paid with great delay. Government departments and many private institutions are unable to continue operating normally.
Prices of food items, including bread, rice, and oilseeds, have increased by at least 70 percent since the start of the war, despite the devaluation of the currency and incomes. Many goods have become scarce, and hoarding specific to wartime conditions has spread, and fear and concern about famine are evident in society.
The Left Party of Iran considers the inefficient policies of the Islamic Republic and the corruption of the regime commands as one of the main causes of water and electricity crisis. The regime is also responsible for the intensification of unemployment, goods soaring prices, economic downturn and the increasing fall of the national currency and the purchasing power of the people of Iran. We believe that the way to deal with these devastating policies is to expand collective and organized protests to the level of general strike in order to put an end to the life of the Islamic Republic.
