Following the explosion that occurred on April 26 at the Rajai wharf in Bandar Abbas and the fire that continues after two days, more than forty workers, port staff and truck drivers lost their lives and at least 1,200 people were injured, dozens of whom are in critical condition. After two days, the cause of the explosion is still unknown. There is a lot of news and speculation about this: from the explosion of frozen rocket fuel to a possible sabotage attempt at the same time as the Islamic Republic's negotiations with the United States in Oman. However, according to statements by port officials, what is clear is that this catastrophe has reached such proportions due to the storage of highly dangerous cargo under the guise of ordinary goods in an unsafe depot.
The Islamic Republic, in its usual manner, is refusing to publish the real news of this tragedy and is concealing the cause of the explosion. The regime’s judicial system warns newspapers, journalists, and social media activists about circulating news of this disaster and “disturbing” the psychological security of the society. But all evidence indicates that the regime’s agents are responsible for storing and maintaining dangerous chemicals in this port.
The main suspicious actor responsible for the explosion in Bandar Abbas is the corrupt and criminal regime of the Islamic Republic. This is not the first time that this regime has played with people’s lives. In the Islamic Republic, concealing the facts and ignoring safety standards in the workplace, whether in ports or mines or other environments, has become a norm. After every disaster of this kind, it is the workers and their families whose lives are ruined and who have to continue their difficult lives with its devastating consequences.
On the other hand, the explosion in Bandar Abbas once again showed what terrible disasters playing with the fire of war and military conflict, whether by the regime's agents or by some forces within the opposition, can bring if the bombings are carried. The pain, suffering, and destruction that are imposed on people throughout Iran in such circumstances are terrifying and horrifying even to imagine. Those who promote such paths are simply pursuing their own interests and ambitions. This explosion is a small example of the extensive damage that may engulf the entire country in the event of a war.
The Left Party of Iran expresses its sympathy to the victims of the explosion in Bandar Abbas and offers condolences to the bereaved families and calls on all compatriots to participate in providing assistance to the victims of this disaster. This explosion has impacted not only the port, but also the entire region and its people. By organizing nationwide public assistance, the suffering of the victims can be alleviated. The regime’s corrupt institutions will certainly prevent this, but we should not surrender to their bullying.
