To Europa Parlament: Urgent Appeal to Prevent the Execution of Sharifeh Mohammadi in Iran

Dear Mr. Satouri,

I am writing to you with great urgency concerning the case of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a prominent Iranian labour rights activist who has recently been sentenced to death. Her lifelong dedication to defending workers’ rights and her commitment to peaceful activism have been met with severe repression, culminating in this unjust and alarming verdict.

This sentence represents not only a violation of Ms. Mohammadi’s fundamental rights but also a direct attack on trade union freedoms, women’s rights, and civil society in Iran. If carried out, it would serve as a chilling precedent to silence all those striving for justice and dignity through peaceful means.

Given your position as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights, I respectfully urge you to:

  • Bring Ms. Mohammadi’s case urgently before the Subcommittee and highlight it in your engagements with EU institutions.

  • Encourage the European Union and its Member States to exert immediate and strong diplomatic pressure on the Iranian authorities to halt this execution.

  • Express solidarity with Iranian labour activists and human rights defenders who continue to face grave risks under escalating repression.

Time is critical, and international pressure can play a decisive role in saving Sharifeh Mohammadi’s life. I sincerely hope you will use your platform and leadership to act on this urgent matter.

Thank you for your tireless work in defending human rights.

With respect and urgency,

Roza Roozbehan

Ms. Hannah Newman

President the Iran Delegation in Europa Parlament

Dear Ms. Neumann,

I am writing to you with deep concern regarding the case of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a well-known labor rights activist in Iran, who has recently been sentenced to death. Her only “crime” has been her tireless commitment to defending workers’ rights, organizing peacefully, and giving a voice to the marginalized. This sentence is not only a grave injustice to her as an individual but also a direct assault on fundamental human rights and freedoms of association.

The Iranian authorities have intensified repression against trade unionists, women activists, and civil society in recent years. The death sentence against Ms. Mohammadi is part of this wider crackdown. If carried out, it would not only silence a courageous advocate for justice, but also send a chilling message to all those struggling peacefully for dignity and rights in Iran.

Given your long-standing commitment to human rights, democracy, and freedom worldwide, I urge you to:

Raise Ms. Mohammadi’s case in the European Parliament and with the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

Call on EU institutions to put immediate pressure on Iranian authorities to halt this execution.

Support initiatives that amplify international solidarity with Iranian labor activists and human rights defenders.

Time is of the essence. International attention and strong voices such as yours can play a critical role in saving her life and ensuring Iran knows the world is watching.

Thank you for your tireless efforts in defending human rights. I hope you will use your platform to help prevent this grave injustice.

Sincerely,

Roza Rooznehan
